The Istanbul Declaration

3rd International Meeting of Dockworkers' Unions · Istanbul, 18–19 May 2026

Dockworkers' unions from more than 35 ports met in Istanbul and called for a second international day of struggle of dockworkers in October 2026. Their joint declaration says:

  1. Ports must not handle weapons, ammunition, military equipment or troops. Dockworkers will expose war cargo and organise resistance.
  2. No militarisation of ports and critical infrastructure. Ports must not be NATO, US or EU bases.
  3. No to the war economy and armaments. Money for wages, health, education and social needs.
  4. End the genocide of the Palestinian people, the occupation and apartheid. For an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
  5. No involvement in the war in the Middle East. Foreign fleets and bases out of the region.
  6. Health and safety at work, collective agreements, real wage rises, stable jobs and less working time.
  7. Stronger international coordination: exchange of information, simultaneous mobilisations and strikes, solidarity with every union under attack.

Signed by ENEDEP (Greece), LAB (Basque Country), Liman-İş (Turkey), ODT (Morocco) and USB (Italy).
